So, in the game itself, Super Mario Odyssey explicitly considers this object to be a note, as evident right here. Per our own naming policies, this should take priority over the names in the accompanying Prima Guide, which is not even consistent. It is called a "song note" and a "music note" interchangeably with "treble clef". Further, in The Art of Super Mario Odyssey, a direct translation of Japanese text, it is also just called a note, not a treble clef. So, while certainly conceptually related to ? Coins, I think it is more accurate to consider the treble clef to be a type of note that just triggers a string of succeeding notes to appear. I do not think it is intended to be a separate object and it would be more accurate for them to share a page.

I can see this not being preferred by some. In the real world, a treble clef is not a musical note. But I don't think that's relevant here because the notes in Super Mario are themselves not "real" musical notes, are they? They are not on a page, their position in space does not influence the sounds they make, and the player does not reference them to play specific songs. They are just shaped like music notes.

I offer two options:

  1. Merge treble clef with note.
  2. Keep them separate.

Merge treble clef with note

  1. Nintendo101 (talk) Per proposal.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per proposal--if the game itself calls them Notes, we don't see any reason to really refute it. Besides, if notes can be different colors, different shapes probably isn't too big of a stretch.

Keep them separate
