It only became apparent to me that this may be a little contentious after I started initiating changes (sorry about that - I already made a similar slip up recently on the Purple Coin Ball page. I will be more thoughtful going forward). However, I moved the name of this article from fake Goal Pole to illusion because while both "names" (i.e. Prima Guide authors/editors applying a noun to a thing as they see it, rather than Nintendo providing a specific name for the thing) are attested in the SM3DW Prima Guide, the latter is a more accurate bridge between what this object is conceptualized in Japan, where it is referred to as テレサのイタズラ (Teresa no Itazura), meaning "Boo's prank" in the Shogakukan Encyclopedia (page 233), and they do not break this up into a fake Goal Pole, fake Mystery Box, etc. They lump them together as one. The sense I have is that the interpretation of these things as separate objects is a western misinterpretation. They are all suppose to be one subject.

While there are similar subjects in previous games (such as various illusionary Ghost House doors, which are treated as a separate object in the encyclopedia under the name ニセ扉, Nise Tobira), to the best of my knowledge, this broader subject category of fake Goal Poles, 1-Up Mushrooms, and Mystery Boxes is exclusive to Super Mario 3D World, so the impacts on a merge or split are small, and it is more accurate to consolidate that that information together under one article.

:Yes, that was careless of me and I apologize. I made the swap before it occurred to me that this may be contentious and that I should have made a proposal beforehand, and at that point another user had already edited the article. I thought it would be too cumbersome to swap it back at that point, so I thought offering to return it to its previous name as part of the second option would be a sufficient compromise.
:I do not do proposals too often, but the rules stipulate that they should be used for scenarios where one "feel[s] that they need community approval before acting", which seems open to interpretation. It is not always clear what would be an innocuous change and what would not be. It has become apparent to me recently that where I think that line would be is not always how others feel.

While there are similar subjects in previous games (such as various illusionary Ghost House doors, which are treated as a separate object in the encyclopedia under the name ニセ扉, Nise Tobira), to the best of my knowledge, this "illusion object" is exclusive to Super Mario 3D World, so the impacts of a merge or split is small.

They way I see it, there are two options:

 1. Merge fake pipe and fake Mystery Box with illusion – this is my preferred option.
 2. Keep the articles split. (This option would also entail moving Illusion back to fake Goal Pole, and just mentioning they share the same name in Japanese in each article, ala Single Swing Lift.)

Yes, that was careless of me and I apologize. I made the swap before it occurred to me that this may be contentious and that I should have made a proposal beforehand, and at that point another user had already edited the article. I thought it would be too cumbersome to swap it back at that point, so I thought offering to return it to its previous name as part of the second option would be a sufficient compromise.

It is not always clear what would be an innocuous change and what would not be. It has become apparent to me recently that where I think that line would be is not always how others feel.
