- In the late 1990's, the level Wet-Dry World from Super Mario 64 was featured in a milk commercial, along with Mario.
- In Wario: Master of Disguise, Wario could traverse lava by wearing an item called Sweatmore Hotpants.
- In the anime Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!, Mario used the same way to defeat Bowser as he did in the later released Super Mario 64. The scene might actually have inspired the game's final battle.
