Big Boo's Haunt is a particularly scary course not only because it is full of Boos but also because it is basically a abandoned mansion which seemed to have been habitated before.

Big Boo's Haunt is a two-story mansion located in a small cage. It is the fifth course in Super Mario 64. Unlike most other courses, Big Boo's Haunt is not accessed via a painting. Instead, Mario must travel to the castle's courtyard (after he has collected twelve Power Stars) and defeat a Big Boo. The Boo will drop a small cage containing the course. Mario shrinks upon entering this cage.

Big Boo's Haunt is inhabited by none other than Big Boo himself, but in Super Mario 64 DS, Mario could find King Boo (though still labeled "Big Boo") there as well. There is a small shack on the side of the mansion that has a lift to the basement. In the center of the basement is a strange large merry-go-round. At the top floor of the mansion, there is (in Super Mario 64 DS) a Luigi painting that leads to the Big Boo Battle. There is also a piano that when you gets closer it tries to attack you by biting you as you it had teeth. Big Boo's Haunt is also home to Mr. I.

Whenever Mario killed a ghost in the first star mission of the level, Big Boo (or King Boo) would deliver the message, "Ghosts...don't...die! Can you get out of here ALIVE?"

Big Boo's Haunt is a particularly scary course not only because it is full of Boos but also because it is basically a abandoned mansion which seemed to have been habitated before.
