Hefty Mildes,[1] also described as large Mildes,[2] are enemies in the Yoshi series. They are larger Mildes that, unlike their smaller counterparts, can only be defeated when a Yoshi ground-pounds them. Otherwise, upon jumping on them, they make the Yoshi bounce away. After a Yoshi pops a Hefty Milde, it splits into four smaller Mildes. Larger variants of Mildes known as Big Mildes pop into two Hefty Mildes after being ground-pounded.
History
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
Hefty Mildes make their debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and reappear in its Game Boy Advance version, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, as uncommon enemies. They first appear in Marching Milde's Fort, where they appear as part of the fight against Marching Milde after a Yoshi pops one of the two Big Mildes present. They also appear in Hookbill The Koopa's Castle, in a hidden room. Here, two Hefty Mildes appear falling from the sides. Yoshi must defeat the two Hefty Mildes to make a Red Coin appear. Throwing an egg or seeds from a Super Green Watermelon at a Hefty Milde will make it bounce backward. Using a Super Red Watermelon, a Super Blue Watermelon, or an Anywhere POW will instantly defeat the Hefty Milde without making the four smaller Mildes appear.
Yoshi's New Island
Hefty Mildes return in Yoshi's New Island alongside normal Mildes. They are now even rarer than in their previous appearance, as they only appear in one level, Spray Day Mayday. Here, only one Hefty Milde appears in a secret room where it is seen walking on a small Bridge in the middle of the room. Yoshi must press the nearby ! Switch to make the ! Blocks present in the room materialize, and then Ground Pound the Hefty Milde and defeat the resulting four Mildes. Doing so makes a Spring Ball appear, which is needed to reach some Red Coins and a Smiley Flower. If Yoshi Ground Pounds the Hefty Milde before pressing the ! Switch, the four Mildes that appear will fall into the void, which does not make the Spring Ball appear.
