WarioWare adaption changes matter (or at least, they're Notes material)[edit]
Wait, why doesn't it matter that the sprite is taken from one specific version? Like, the thrust of basing a microgame on an old thing means the old thing is extremely relevant to the proceedings. It creates expectations that WarioWare sometimes uses to it's advantage or tosses away because it would get in the way of the point. Minor tomfoolery relating to crossover logistics is like a Notes section's bread and butter: too minor to fit in the body but too interesting to gaming history to not have. (PS: Microgames are more or less 100% MarioWiki's problem, other NIWA wikis look at them funny, keep the entire WarioWare series on one page, and don't have anything as indepth/trivial as a sprite not being localized in the same way the game the microgame is based on was.) Transformers Wiki, the wiki that influenced this wiki's decision to rename Trivia sections to Notes sections, also uses Notes for minor tomfoolery relating to crossover logistics. (I should come up with a catchier phrase) Salmancer (talk) 23:01, March 16, 2025 (EDT)
- Perhaps there could be a middle ground compromise, like Nintendo101's crossover proposal. The microgames are articles on the Super Mario Wiki, but I'd say specific details go on our affiliate wikis. I'm not here to read about Link in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, I'm here to read about what Link does in the microgame and the bare minimum explanation of it being based on Zelda II, where the reader can then go to read more about the topic if they're interested in The Legend of Zelda. - But I'm arguing your ideal case scenario isn't true. WarioWare does not have coverage on Zelda Wiki. Or rather, it does... it has two articles for the entire series, one of them being the "list of references" equivalent. They're so short I can probably quote both paragraphs on Zelda 2 verbatim and not break any usage rights policies:
"This WiiWare game links to WarioWare: DIY on the Nintendo DS to transfer microgames back and forth. It also features its own stages of new microgames. 18-Volt has his own stage in this installment, and a microgame is featured based on The Adventure of Link, titled Zelda 2. In it, Link has to defend against a Goriya's Boomerangs with his Shield. As in WarioWare: DIY, difficulty levels are not implemented." - WarioWare
"One of 18-Volt's microgames is based on The Adventure of Link. In it, Link must raise his Shield to protect himself from the Boomerangs thrown by the Goriya." - Cameos of The Legend of Zelda in Nintendo Media
.
- The information about the Link sprite will fit perfectly on the WarioWare page on Zelda Wiki. If we're to add notes on particularly observant details like Link's sprite, should we add everything about Goriyas, Boomerangs, or even caves from Zelda II, which are more broad? It doesn't work. - I think that the process of adaptation is a significant part of the video game in a way Mario Wiki should care about. What are the details Nintendo double checks before shipping to make sure everything's right? What are the details they forgot about, or knew were wrong but were not bothered to fix? What are the details that are wrong but were intentionally changed for the purpose crafting the distinct WarioWare experience? We can't answer the last two questions, because this is a wiki, but we should be presenting the facts so people can interpret them to reach a conclusion for these questions of their own, because we're a secondary source on the Super Mario franchise. - Oh and also I feel like plunking the former Notes section on this article into the Zelda Wiki WarioWare series article wouldn't work because it would result in a note that is longer than the content it is about. Unless the situation is exceedingly nutty having trivia be longer than the content doesn't look great. Salmancer (talk) 23:35, March 16, 2025 (EDT)

- If changes were deliberately made to the Link sprite for WarioWare, with official sources to corroborate, that's one thing. If not, then it's a trivial observation that wouldn't even work on the "Did you know?" section on the front of the site. I doubt others would be interested in retaining it, either. Well I, LinkTheLefty, am interested. It's not just the Link sprite, but also the battle music, and it happened before. I think as long as the article mentions that it's the Disk System version, it should be clear what that means, but not everyone knows. Since the Volt microgames are based on other Nintendo games, it probably doesn't hurt to elaborate a little more, considering most players will be familiar with the NES cartridge version. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:36, March 17, 2025 (EDT)- We realize we aren't really "in" on the conversation, but personally, we feel like acknowledging these weird little discrepancies and inaccuracies is fine. If we already acknowledge the use of the FDS assets on the Touched microgame, we can't imagine this being particularly contentious, whereas removing that information from the Touched microgame would definitely raise an eyebrow from us.
