Delete?[edit]

Before this gets tagged for deletion again, my reasoning for this is the following: while the name might be conjectural since there is no official soundtrack naming for the song that plays in Cheep Cheep Lagoon, there is no harm in keeping a redirect up for anyone who isn't in the know that we have a section under the Underwater BGM (Super Mario Bros.) article. I find it plausible that someone here is going to search up "Cheep Cheep Lagoon (Mario Golf: World Tour theme)": this isn't an entirely made-up conjectural name, the name IS an apt description for the unnamed song that plays in the golf course from Mario Golf: World Tour specifically (because there are multiple Cheep Cheep Lagoons). Citing precedence and and our Musical theme policy (which does not say anything about redirects based on conjectural names) is not a valid reason to remove a redirect, especially since redirects are typically zero cost and are harmless to have on the wiki. There's no reason to fight so hard over something that doesn't hurt to have. I'll understand the precedence case if the redirect is something completely nonsensical, but in this case, it's not, there is utility to this. Please stop tagging this redirect for deletion. I would argue it does hurt to have this redirect around, because it's existence implies that it is officially named, and someone might want to move the current Cheep Cheep Lagoon (theme) article to Cheep Cheep Lagoon (Mario Kart 7 theme) to differentiate the two, despite the fact that it is (currently) the only one of the two themes to be officially named.

Also, if this conjecturally named musical theme redirect gets to stay, why did tons of other conjecturally named musical theme redirects get deleted for the exact same reason? Why should this one be the exception when your reasoning to keep it could easily apply to all of the other themes? If you ask me, either every conjectural musical theme redirect should exist or none of them should. And as far as I'm concerned, there is no policy saying that conjecturally named musical theme redirects are allowed. Redirects aren't there to confirm if something is "officially named". It's there to help readers go to articles they might search for. "Mario Kart Wii U" redirects to Mario Kart 8. So does "Mario Kart U". So does "Mario Kart Eight". None of these are official Mario Kart 8 titles in any capacity, but we have them there to help readers get to the article they are looking for. Plus, we have a redirect policy: MarioWiki:Redirects, which implicitly *does* allow such redirects. Please give that a read before you go on adding deletion requests to redirects any more. Furthermore, the one redirect page you keep citing, Greenhorn Forest's theme, got deleted for entirely different reasons than here, and honestly, I would dispute such a deletion anyway, because if I were searching for the Greenhorn Forest theme I would honestly type that. Greenhorn Forest's theme wasn't a redirect. It was a full-blown article. And it was deleted because conjecturally named musical themes that aren't recurring (as in, they appear in at least 8 pieces of official Super Mario-related media) can't have articles or redirects. Also, it "got deleted for entirely different reasons than here"? It got deleted because its name is conjectural. Is that not the exact reason for me requesting this redirect to get deleted? Also, also, MarioWiki:Redirects says nothing about conjecturally named musical themes specifically. As far as I'm concerned, conjecturally named musical themes still aren't allowed, even after reading that. MarioWiki:Redirects lists exceptions. The general rule is this: if it's too goofy, or if it's too general, it gets deleted. This also covers conjectural music themes: if a musical theme is too goofy, or too general, it will get deleted. I've made my case on why Cheep Cheep Lagoon (Mario Golf: World Tour theme) doesn't fall under it. Also, if Greenhorn Forest's theme wasn't a redirect, then why did you bring it up? It has zero relevance to this discussion. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 03:51, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
I bring up Greenhorn Forest's theme because the reason for it's deletion is the same as my reason for requesting this redirect to be deleted as well. Like I said before, why should this conjecturally named musical theme redirect stay when tons of other conjecturally named musical theme articles and redirects that are arguably just as "valid" as this one got deleted without a second thought due to being conjectural? You have yet to answer that. Peach costume pose in Super Mario Maker Wilben Ashley costume pose in Super Mario Maker (talk • edits) 04:10, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
They shouldn't have been deleted as per MarioWiki:Redirects. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 04:12, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
Then why were they? Peach costume pose in Super Mario Maker Wilben Ashley costume pose in Super Mario Maker (talk • edits) 04:13, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
That's irrelevant to this discussion. They shouldn't have been deleted in the first place. Period. There is no need to delete conjectural, alternate name, alternate capitalization, or spelling mistake redirects unless they are specifically too silly or too general. It says so right here in the policy. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 04:15, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
That doesn't apply to musical themes though. Peach costume pose in Super Mario Maker Wilben Ashley costume pose in Super Mario Maker (talk • edits) 04:18, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
That proposal linked does not mention redirects anywhere and is irrelevant to this discussion. Regardless, this conversation has gone on for way too long, while ignoring points from actual policy pages. Please do not drag this out any further. If we're keeping this redirect, shouldn't Cheep Cheep Lagoon (theme) be moved to Cheep Cheep Lagoon (Mario Kart 7 theme)? Peach costume pose in Super Mario Maker Wilben Ashley costume pose in Super Mario Maker (talk • edits) 04:26, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
IMO, yes. Waluigi Pinball (theme) also has this issue because there is a distinct Mario Sports Mix version of it. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 04:32, September 30, 2026 (UTC)
But the Waluigi Pinball theme from Mario Kart DS is the only musical theme that is officially called "Waluigi Pinball", and per MarioWiki:Article naming#Musical theme titles, only officially named musical themes and/or recurring musical themes are allowed articles, so adding "Mario Kart DS" to the identifier of Waluigi Pinball (theme) isn't necessary at the moment due to there being no other musical themes that officially share that name, and the Waluigi Pinball theme from Mario Sports Mix isn't allowed to have an article yet due to neither being recurring nor having an official name.
