The Kurayami Sasori is a poisonous scorpion species that appears in Super Mario Kart 3 of the Super Mario Kodansha manga. Its face resembles the author's avatar, and even the stinger is identical to a fountain pen that usually has on his cap: this is done for the sake of a joke of the creature being able to live only in the dark and suffering in the light, like the hikikomori lifestyle mangaka often have.
As his last resort to stop Mario during the Super Mario Cart Rally, Bowser sends the Choropū Mōdoku Butai in action and it throws the scorpion at him, but Luigi is the one to get stung by it in the nose, causing it to get incredibly swollen. After that, being left exposed to the sun, the scorpion dies. With a quick diagnosis, Dr. Mario Nakamatsu recognize the effect of the deadly animal and inform Mario that he has 30 minutes to find a cure. The cure is discovered to be stored in Pū Tairiku and, while hindered by Wario, Mario manages to save his brother at the very last second.
