The Great Bōeigun is Mario City's defense force instituted by Luigi (ministry of defense) in Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World 7 of the Super Mario Kodansha manga.
Created before the kaiju menace become a problem, Luigi created the force to prevent or defeat such threats. Luigi is initially the sole members, but then make Mario and Yoshi join the squad (giving Yoshi a yellow cap like theirs). Other members of the squad include Super Mario Great, who is summoned by Mario in secret, and later Princess Peach and a reformed Ninji. The arsenal consists in Yoshi-themed vehicle called "Yoshi Bird" followed by a number, each with his own function: in numerical order, flight, drilling, sawing, underwater exploration, space travel, and a paddle. The base in located on a Yoshi-shaped island located in Mario City's sea.
