Reuses from Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

A very large amount of the models in this game (thus accounting for the non-game-rez images) are reused whole cloth in vertices, textures, vertex shading, and normals from Super Mario 64 DS. For example, among enemies, this includes Bob-ombs, Thwomps, Whomps, Piranha Plants, Scuttlebugs, Moneybags, and many, many, many more. In general, we've tried to prune graphical reuse from later games by having the same file be used twice, though these games are so fundamentally different from a gameplay perspective despite the rampant asset reuse that I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Worth noting, this gallery is much fuller on the asset front than SM64DS's is, despite the amount of shared models. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:24, May 7, 2025 (EDT)

If assets are indeed identical to each other then we can share images of the models, we don't need two identical assets. BabyLuigiFire.pngXiahou Ba(the Nasty Warrior) 19:27, May 7, 2025 (EDT)
That's what I think too, but there's also some weird cases as well. For instance, this thing's model was reused for Flame Chomp, and I'm pretty sure that Cheep Cheep's original model was reused for Big Cheep Cheep while normal Cheep Cheep got a downgraded model for NSMB. Pretty sure the same thing happened with Mega Goomba, but with normal Goombas being replaced with sprites. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:31, May 7, 2025 (EDT)
Whether the asset is representing a different thing doesn't really matter, we can just note that in the aboutfile. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 19:35, May 7, 2025 (EDT)
