Plot synopsisEdit

At Video Land Amusement Park, Donkey Kong is the new attraction, who lives in a cage in the amusement park and is not very skilled at making friends. He mostly daydreams of Pauline, who works at the amusement park and acts and sings during "The Big Show," an outdoor theater where everyone gathers to hear her sing. After her show ends, she feeds the animals in the park peanuts and crackers, which she always does during her lunch break, and as a result, all of the animals love her very much. Mario also works at the park as a carpenter (referencing his occupation during the game Donkey Kong), repairing all of the attractions in the park, though Pauline does not know his occupation, as he is too shy to tell her. Despite this, he watches her from the top of his ladder while repairing the haunted house attraction. Mario sighs whenever Pauline sings, as he is unable to express his love to her.

At noon, Mario takes a break from repairing a flying plane ride and watches Pauline as she offers Donkey Kong a peanut, eating his lunch consisting of a ham sandwich and canteen. From his ladder, he sees Pauline, who is feeding a peanut to Donkey Kong, with Mario expressing delight in watching her feed the animals. Suddenly, Donkey Kong clutches her and she screams for help. Mario, having heard her scream, climbs down his ladder and hits Donkey Kong on the head with a hammer, making him briefly lose his grip on Pauline. However, Donkey Kong bends the bars of his cage and escapes with Pauline, with Mario dazed on the ground.
