Beginner 1 (Mario Kart Racetrack Logic Game)

The challenge

Beginner 1 is the first beginner challenge of Mario Kart Racetrack Logic Game. The challenge asks the player who will cross the finish line.

Overview

The challenge consists of a Green Shell in the first row and column, a Dash Mushroom in the second row and third column, an Item Box in the second row and fourth column, and a Banana Peel in the third row and first column. The challenge also features the following clues:

• Bowser is located directly underneath the Dash Mushroom.
• Mario is located in the middle row.
• Nobody is tied with Mario.
• Luigi and Bowser are tied.
• Yoshi is located in the bottom row.
• Peach is located directly underneath the Green Shell.

Using these hints, it is known that Bowser is in the third row and third column, underneath the Dash Mushroom, while Peach located in the second row and first column, between the Green Shell and Banana Peel. As it is known that Luigi is tied with Bowser, Luigi must be in the same column as Bowser. As Bowser is in the third column and the first row is the only row where this column is unoccupied, Luigi must be in the first row and third column, above the Dash Mushroom.

This leaves Mario, who is known to be in the second row, and Yoshi, who is located in the third row. Mario must be in the second row and second column, to the left of the Dash Mushroom, as the second column is the only column where this row is unoccupied. This then leaves Yoshi, who is known to be in either the second or fourth column of the third row as it is said that Yoshi is in the bottom row, referring to this row. However, it also mentions that no-one is tied with Mario, so Yoshi must be in the fourth column of the third row, below the Item Box.

As Yoshi is in the fourth column, which is the closest column to the finish line, he will be the racer who crosses the finish line.
