Jean de Fillets[1] are skeleton Cheep Cheeps that live in both water and lava. They only appear in the Yoshi's Island series, debuting in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, returning in its remake Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and lastly Yoshi's New Island. Their name comes from "fillet", a boneless cut of meat (usually fish). Their English name is a possible reference to the 1986 French period drama Jean de Florette. Despite being a Flopsy Fish's skeleton, a Jean de Fillet is larger than it. Jean de Fillets stick their heads out of the water or lava, then jump out, knocking Yoshi away if they touch him. Yoshi can't eat them, but they can be defeated with an egg or another object thrown at them.

Jean de Fillets are seldomly encountered in levels. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Jean de Fillets appear in two levels: The Impossible? Maze and Tap-Tap The Red Nose's Fort. In Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, they additionally appear in the Endless World of Yoshis stage. Yoshi's New Island features a Jean de Fillet boss, Furious Fred de Fillet, fought in Furious Fred de Fillet's Castle, where Jean de Fillets are also encountered.
