“Whadda ya think o' me jar collection, then?”
Jarvis, Luigi's Mansion

Jarvis, the Jar Collector (Japanese: シボーン Shibōn), is an antique jar collecting ghost of unknown age. Apparently, Jarvis loves jars so much, he now lives inside one. Luigi first discovers Jarvis in the Ceramics Studio on the third floor of Luigi's Mansion. Although Luigi does not need to capture Jarvis to save his brother, he can earn a Silver Diamond and two Gold Bars if he bests the portrait ghost in combat.

After entering the studio, Luigi quickly explores the jar-filled room. After examining the area around the far wall, Jarvis appears from one of the jars and challenges Luigi to a Whac-A-Mole-style game. If Luigi can hit Jarvis with blasts of ice seven times, the ghost will allow Luigi to fight him. After collecting an Ice Elemental Ghost, Luigi shoots icy mist at Jarvis as the ghost warps to different jars around the room. After seven hits, Jarvis is ready for the real test to begin.

Angered by losing the game, Jarvis starts levitating ceramic jars and mentally throwing them at Luigi, dealing five damage for every hit. Luigi counters by sucking up Jarvis with the Poltergust 3000. Eventually, Luigi overcomes Jarvis' medium pull and captures the portrait ghost. After collecting the ghost's valuable treasure, Luigi continues his search for his captured brother.

Trivia

  • Jarvis is very similar to Roger the Potted Ghost, who appeared in the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
  • Jarvis is shown being three different colors in. Red on screen, purple in his silver and bronze portraits, and pink in his gold portrait.
  • Jarvis is the only portrait ghost who isn't a boss whose heart can't be checked at all. If the player tries to scan his heart, no line will pop up. The same happens if the player tries to scan a normal ghost's heart.
  • Jarvis speaks in a stereotypical Scottish accent.
  • It is possible that Jarvis once looked human in life, as opposed to other nonhuman ghosts, but took on this form in death when he decided to live in a jar. He may just be an as-of-yet unknown species in the Mushroom World.
