Layout

For both games, the player must first enter the igloo, which is accessible either by using the Shiny Shell to climb a ramp in the freezing pond with the Spindrifts or by dropping down from the penguin's bridge. To enter the igloo, the player has to crawl.

In Super Mario 64, the player needs to have the Vanish Cap unlocked. In the back right of the igloo is a blue block that can be reached by double-jumping or wall-jumping over the ice wall. Once the Vanish Cap is collected and Mario turns into Vanish Mario, he can run through the ice walls. Mario needs to reach the platform with the Power Star near the igloo's entrance that is blocked with ice in time. If Mario ends up turning visible while still in an ice wall, the game's collision will simply shove him out.

In Super Mario 64 DS, Luigi is required to collect the Power Star. In the back left of the igloo is a red block that produces a Power Flower when struck. The Power Flower turns Luigi invisible, and he needs to run to the large grate at the entrance of the igloo and fall through it to collect the Power Star.
