Beach Volley Folly is an Extra Room minigame in Mario Party 4. If the player selects the Ztar, they get to play this minigame. It also appears as a Special minigame in Mario Party: The Top 100 and as a Sports & Puzzles minigame in Mario Party Superstars. Though the minigame does not appear in Mario Party 5, it is reworked into Beach Volleyball.

Setting[edit]

The game takes place on a beach with red and blue umbrellas, a yellow-and-green umbrella at the bottom left corner, and red and blue fences with several Super Stars on them. There is also a restaurant at the top left corner called Kinopio Burger, presumably the restaurant in which Order Up takes place due to "Kinopio Burger" being that minigame's Japanese name. During the introduction, the camera takes a view of the Goomba as a lifeguard sitting on his stool and the sun, then zooms out to reveal the two teams that are on each side of the volleyball net.

Gameplay[edit]

The minigame pits two teams of two against each other in a beach volleyball match. In Mario Party 4's Battle Mode, player(s) must work their way to the top, facing six other teams along the way. If Battle Mode is completed, Free Mode is unlocked, allowing up to four players to play together. A birthday cake is also unlocked and placed in the minigame Present Room. The minigame ends when one side reaches five points. In The Top 100 and Superstars, the player can also choose between seven to 21 points.

In Mario Party 4, the normal cast of characters is playable alongside characters exclusive to this mode. The exclusive playable characters in Beach Volley Folly are Toad, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Boo, Bowser, and Koopa Kid. They are unlockable characters and are usable only in Free Mode. In later variations of Beach Volley Folly, only the playable cast of characters in those respective Mario Party games is usable.
