Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a role playing video game designed by Squaresoft (currently Square Enix) and released for the Super Nintendo in 1996. It introduced Mario to the RPG franchise, and worked out fairly well with an action-command battle system.

Sometimes considered to be one of the best games for the Super Nintendo, or even one of the best Mario games, Super Mario RPG's success was limited because of the release of the Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64. Many fans have hoped and begged earnestly for a port of the game on the Game Boy Advance, but Nintendo has no plans for such a re-release. Super Mario RPG has recently been confirmed as a Wii Virtual Console game.

Story

Princess Toadstool is wandering outside Mario's pad, but is suddenly kidnapped by King Bowser using the Koopa Clown Car. Once Mario sees Princess Toadstool in peril, he chases after her to end up at a castle. After going through the castle, Mario finally catches up with Bowser, and proceeds to battle him on the chandeliers. Upon defeating Bowser, a giant sword named Exor came down from the heavens, destroying the star road in the process, and impaled itself into the heart of Bowser's castle sending Mario, Princess Peach, and Bowser flying off in separate directions. Mario ends up flying back to his house, and is asked by Toad to recover the princess from Bowser's castle, both being unaware obviously that she was also thrown clear. When he returns to the castle, Mario is greeted by Exor who informs him that the castle is now the property of the Smithy Gang before breaking the bridge into the castle while Mario, avoiding a fall into the valley below, watches helplessly from the other side. Now Mario travels through different worlds to collect 7 magical stars, where he will work with such characters as Mallow, Geno, Princess Toadstool, and even Bowser and defeat the evil Smithy and his minions.
