Duel minigame

Dust Buddies is a 4-Player and Duel minigame appearing in Mario Party DS. Its name is a pun on "dust bunnies."

Introduction

The game starts with the two or four competitors walking down a hallway when a vacuum cleaner comes. The competitors then start running away from the incoming vacuum.

Gameplay

Duel mode for Dust Buddies in Mario Party DS
Duel minigame version

Players must run away from the vacuum cleaner in the hallway to avoid getting sucked up while dodging obstacles, such as fluffs, balls, film strips, ribbons, and buttons, along the way. The layout of these obstacles is random each game, and they have varying effects:

  • Film strips, ribbons, and an envelope (which is always present at the end) will pull players standing on them into the vacuum.
  • Dust bunnies slow players and prevent them from jumping.
  • Buttons and balls trip and stun players that run into them. Balls will also rebound at a random angle upon hitting the vacuum cleaner.

The last player standing, or the players who cross the finish line, is the winner. If all the players get sucked up by the vacuum cleaner, the minigame is considered a tie.

Ending

At the end of the minigame, all characters are on top of a dresser. The winner(s) then do(es) their victory dance(s) while the loser(s) do(es) their losing pose(s).

Controls

  • +Control Pad – Move
  • A ButtonJump

In-game text

  • Rules"Avoid getting sucked up by the vacuum until you reach the finish, or just be the last one standing."
  • Tips"Sidestep the buttons and balls. Be careful when you step on ribbons or film strips, because the vacuum will quickly suck those up."
