“If you run and then press Z right before a jump, you'll do a long jump! Try it! It feels pretty great!”

The Long Jump (called Leap in Super Mario 3D Land[1]) is a special move first appearing in Super Mario 64 and its remake, Super Mario 64 DS. It also appears in Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D Land, and Super Mario 3D World. To use this move, the player must Crouch while in motion and Jump, causing the character to jump a long horizontal distance. Super Mario Sunshine is the only 3D Mario platformer where Mario cannot long jump due to FLUDD being utilized on his back therefore making it impossible for him to long jump even in the levels without F.L.U.D.D.

It is possible to start moving backwards after the initial jump, a maneuver that can activate many in-game glitches.

There is also a variation of long jump called the Double Kick, and can be done in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. This move can defeat enemies and activate items.
