Mom Piranha

Template:MLinfobox Mom Piranha is a giant Piranha Plant that appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. During the events of the game it takes up residence in a large egg on the runway at the Beanbean International Airport. She sends her offspring to take root in the runway, preventing planes from landing or taking off. Thus Princess Peach, who is going to attend an important meeting with Queen Bean and Prince Peasley, is unable to land her plane. It is up to Mario and Luigi to get rid of the enemies. To achieve that, Mario has to drink water from one of the nearby fountains and spit it on the Piranha offspring, soaking it and making it swell up and turn a dull turquoise color. Luigi then has to shock the plant with his Thunderhand. Since the offspring is connected to Mom Piranha, the electricity surges through the roots of the Piranha Plants and into her egg, causing it to crack open, one bit at a time. In the end, Mario and Luigi end up defeating Mom Piranha in battle, allowing Peach to safely land her plane.

Mom Piranha has several offensive abilities, such as slapping the Mario Bros with her tentacle-like arms and spitting a large ball of energy at the Marios. There are usually two smaller Piranha Plants with the main plant, varying in color from red to blue. Mom Piranha's color changes to match whatever the majority of the Piranha's colors are (starting at red with two red plants). If the Piranha Plants are different colors, Mom Piranha will not change color, unless the other plant of her color is defeated, and one of the opposite color appears. Mom Piranha sometimes also raises another Piranha Plant if one gets struck down. In addition, for every plant of her color, Mom Piranha regains ten health points at the end of each turn. Most attacks on Mom Piranha do minimal damage because of the high defense stat. However, Mario and Luigi can deal a large amount of damage by using Thunderhand and Firebrand depending on Mom Piranha's color. The drawback of this is that this causes all of the Piranha Plants to react and spit out fireballs and electricity in a random, frenzied manner.

Trivia

• Mom Piranha is like Megasmilax and Lava Piranha from previous Mario RPGs.
• Strangely, in the US version of the game if the Mom Piranha was defeated when she was purple, she would give out no coins.
