Special Attacks first appear in the game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Both Bowser and the Bros. (Mario & Luigi) are able to use these, which each special attack using a certain amount of Special Points, or SP. Special Attacks even have a menu section in the star menu, where the player can watch demo's and practice the attacks.
Mario & Luigi's Attacks
Mario & Luigi both use a total of Ten Special Attacks throughout the game. To obtain a special attacks, Mario and Luigi need to collect ten Attack Pieces. They can be obtained from special Attack Piece Blocks and completing various sidequests. All ten Special Attacks are:
- Green Shell - 3 SP
- Fire Flower - 4 SP
- Jump Helmet - 6 SP
- Yoo Who Cannon - 7 SP
- Super Bouncer - 7 SP
- Mighty Meteor - 8 SP
- Spin Pipe - 10 SP
- Snack Basket - 14 SP
- Magic Window - 18 SP
- Falling Star - 20 SP
Bowser's Attacks

Trivia
- Although the top screen of Mario and Luigi's tutorials always show a Goomba being defeated by the acquired Special Move, no Goombas are seen in-game as enemies except Jailgoons and Chuboombas.
