During the events of Donkey Kong, Mario (at that time, named "Jumpman") was a carpenter, rather than a plumber. Additionally, Donkey Kong was Mario's pet at that time.
In Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Mario and Yoshi figurines can be seen in Otacon's Lab.
In one of the beta versions of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Sergeant Starshade could be battled.
