Wario, Wario Land II

Cooks are enemies featured in Wario Land II and Wario Land 3. They are small, pink moles in chef's attire that induce the Fat Wario status.

Cooks first appeared in Wario Land II. In this game they walk around certain levels (usually indoors), carrying pieces of cake on long forks. If Wario treads too near to a Cook, it will jump and toss its cake. If Wario touches this confection, he will be forced to eat it and become Fat Wario, which can be either a hinderance or a necessity for completing the level, depending on the situation.

As aforementioned, Cooks returned in Wario Land 3, albeit redesigned to wear pants in favor of toques, and they appeared overall grouchier. They also throw doughnuts rather than cake, but otherwise behave identically to the previous version. They shared their status as a source of the Fat Wario form with Applebies in Wario Land 3, and both enemies were replaced by Apple Monkeys by Wario Land 4.

Trivia

  • The design of Cooks' cakes - frosting-covered and triangular with a strawberry on top - was seemingly reused for the Cake item of Paper Mario.
