The Finish Line is an element that appears in the Mario Kart series. It is a checkered line that appears on the course, which comes in many colors. Lakitu will wave the checkered flag when players cross the line, which signals the end of the race. In addition, the line is also used to signal when to start racing when the lights on Lakitu's starting signal turns green and when they can start the next lap/section. Almost all the time, the starting line is the finish line, but since Mario Kart 7, there have been some courses which do not abide by this guideline.
