Names[edit]

Thank you for your recent uploads. I would request, however, that when giving a file a name, you are a little more specific in the files name. What would help the most is by at least adding the game it is used in with the game's abbreviation (Super Mario Maker-->SMM), and potentially adding in other information as well, such as 'Clipperboard Sprite'. For more information, read the wiki's guide or my own guide. Thanks again and happy editing. Trig - 11:48, January 11, 2020 (EST)

File uploads[edit]

To add to the above, please keep in mind that the file must be filled in with a license and image category as well as a description. Instead of using the wiki text editor's uploader, I would suggest using the default Special:Upload function in the future (as recommended on the editor uploader's dialog box: "You may also want to try the default upload page."). From there, in "Summary", you fill in the parameters for aboutfile (replacing "Subject of the image" with what the image shows, etc.) and replace uncategorized with a category from Category:MarioWiki images (so for a Super Mario Maker image, you'd add in ), and in "Licensing", simply select from the drop-down menu what the image is (game screenshot, sprite etc.) Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 19:54, January 11, 2020 (EST)

Hello, Scratchfangs. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, Scratchfangs. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must apply the proper license. A full list of licenses can be found in the file copyright tags category, but the following are the most common:

 • photo - Used for photographs of real-life subjects.
 • art - Used for artwork of something that is not a character.
 • comic-scene - Used for scans of a comic.
 • comic-cover - Used for covers of comic books.
 • tv-screenshot - Used for screenshots of television shows.
 • film-screenshot - Used for screenshots of movies.
 • video-screenshot - Used for other screenshots, such as those from YouTube.

When uploading, select the license from the drop-down box below the summary text box, or add the license manually after uploading or if you're using the upload function from the text editor. For example, artwork of Mario would use character-artwork.

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Don't include multiple copyright templates; choose the one that you feel best fits the file. If you continue uploading files without applying the correct license, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Please categorise and license your uploads in addition to adding a description.

Also, please do not upload fan-created sprites and pass them off as official. They need to be the sprites taken directly from the game. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:16, April 11, 2021 (EDT)
