Tighten the coverage of Toad
First of all, I believe it was a mistake for this wiki to have put too much weight on the idea that his name, "Toad", set him apart from other Toads.
It has been made clear that there is a singular "Toad" character, despite him sharing the same name and appearance as the rest of his species. The biggest indicator of this is that ever since Mario Power Tennis various games have put in effort to have him as the only Toad with red spots and a blue vest, among a sea of mono-chromatic Toads, even going as far as to retroactively apply this idea in games like the Super Mario RPG remake. This is an effort in distinguishment that is noticeably not had with any playable Koopa Troopa, Goomba, Shy Guy, or other group-based characters that are generally identical to their belonging group.
It's important to note how Nintendo actually uses Toad. He is used as a representative of Toads.
In the past, too much weight has been put on the idea that his name set him apart, when that has never really been the case. Even in recent titles, such as Super Mario Party Jamboree or Super Mario Bros. Wonder,
However, I feel the current coverage does not put enough importance on this as it should. For example.
- Toad must have red spots and a blue vest, unless an appearance references a prior appearance where he had hat design. This would exclude Super Mario Sunshine, the Super Mario Baseball (series).
- Include games where a singular Toad with red spots and a blue vest is present, even if there are no explicit signs he is Toad. This would include Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Paper Mario, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
