Director's Notes (Super Mario Bros. (talk))

Hello everybody, welcome to the Awards Issue 2014! This month is dedicated to the anniversary festivities that took place last month, and as such most of Fun Stuff is themed after the Super Mario Wiki's anniversary! I would like to congratulate Turboo (talk) and Superchao (talk) on yet another great awards show and would like to congratulate all of The 'Shroom's writers that have received awards.

We are currently looking for people to write for Fun Stuff! If you are interested in writing for the Fun Stuff, check out our list of openings on our sign up page and submit an application to me on the forum. As you can see, we have a wide variety of content that we aim to provide each month: from riddles and jokes to puzzles and guessing games, we have plenty of sections and activities we strive to provide every month.

Fun Stuff Contest

How would you like a chance to take part in a contest to win a special prize? Well, the chance is here! The Fun Stuff Team is running a contest this month, and all members are invited to participate! The rules are simple:

  • You must have an account on both the Super Mario Wiki and the Super Mario Boards.
  • Be the first to solve this month's Crossword, Word Search and Non-Mario Crossword sections below! All three puzzles must be solved in their entirety.
  • You must send the answers to me on the forum by October 11th, 2014 in order to be eligible.
  • The first person to send in the correct answers will win the prize! Others who submit the correct answers after will be given a mention in next month's Fun Stuff.
  • The results of these three activities will be published in the October 2014 issue.
  • Any questions regarding the contest can be directed to me on the forum.

So I hope to see you all participate! All it will take is some time and thought for a chance to win a prize or an honorable mention.

Trivia (Marshal Dan Troop (talk))

Friends, colleagues, servants. It’s with a heavy heart that I bid a fond farewell to my loyal colleague and second in command Ensign Compy von Computon, who passed away last month on August 15th 2014 at 10:05 pm while fighting against the evil golf club army of Switzerland. Compy was a loyal soldier– strong, brave, courageous, had the ability to get on the internet, all things you want in a soldier. So my friend, I wish you peace in the afterlife and I hope to see you when I depart from this world. And with that I suppose I should get on with the show so did you know...

Mystery Image (Super Mario Bros. (talk))

Welcome to Mystery Image! We haven't had this game in a while, so allow me to explain— I will provide five small parts of a bigger image, and you must guess what the mystery image is! While we try to challenge you, we're not going to make it anything too hard (nothing like a section of the rarest Mario comic book in the world). It will usually be official artwork that is used for these games. This one is related to one of the recipients of one of the awards this year, can you guess what the image is?

Guess Who! (Super Mario Bros. (talk))

Here we are with Guess Who!, everybody's favorite guessing game! I will list several hints describing a character, and you have to guess who it is.

This character...

  1. ...made their debut in a 2012 video game.
  2. ...is a fairy companion that grants Mario certain powers.
  3. ...has a name that is an anagram of another word, minus one letter.
  4. ...initially assumed Mario to be the bad guy, before befriending him.
  5. ...is the guardian of special objects which were stolen by Bowser.
  6. ...likes to scold other characters, even Mario.
  7. ...ends up sacrificing themselves for a victory.
  8. ...won an award this year in this year's Awards Ceremonies.

Answer:

If Kersti comes to mind after reading these hints, you've read into them correctly! Kersti the sticker fairy made her appearance in Paper Mario: Sticker Star and is the guardian of the Royal Stickers which have been stolen. She initially assumed that Mario was the culprit at first but joins him to defeat Bowser and save the land. She even sacrifices herself during the final battle with Bowser, but Mario's wish to the Royal Stickers restores her in the end. Kersti also won Fail Award #4, Worst Paper Mario Sidekick in this year's anniversary ceremonies– not exactly something to brag about!

Guess Who! Edition Two? (Super Mario Bros. (talk))

What? A second Guess Who!? That's right! As this month's edition of The 'Shroom is dedicated to the Super Mario Wiki Anniversary, I am featuring two of these guessing games. The first one is dedicated to the Mario series, and the second one is related to the MarioWiki community. See if you can guess correctly!

This individual...

  1. ...found the Super Mario Wiki while searching for information on the "Weegee" internet meme.
  2. ...joined the wiki in 2009.
  3. ...ended up becoming an administrator shortly thereafter.
  4. ...also became a prominent member of Userpedia and The 'Shroom.
  5. ...has been renamed three times on the Super Mario Wiki.
  6. ...presented five awards in this year's Super Mario Wiki Awards Show.
  7. ...is the only user to directly win awards in both the 'Shroom and Userpedia categories this year.
  8. ...likes to draw.

Answer:

Edofenrir (also known as Kibago, Hitokage and currently Gabumon) is a former administrator of Super Mario Wiki. After finding the website in a search for information on the "Weegee" fad and Mario is Missing! information, Edo continued to use the wiki as a resource for Mario information. He decided to join the wiki on 6 August 2009 and was given his first administrative position on 16 September 2009 after working extensively on Wario Land-related articles. He would then go on to become a Sysop, an administrator at Userpedia and a writer and staff member of The 'Shroom (initially as Director of Fake News and later as Sub-director). Edofenrir is known throughout the community for his artistic ability, and often finds himself taking on several art projects for the many friends he has made on MarioWiki. He is the recipient of 'Shroom Award #3, Favorite Leading Staff; Userpedia Award #4, Favorite User Design; and Userpedia Award #5, Favorite Artist. His creation Tales from the Moon also won Userpedia Award #3, Favorite Comic.

Guess That Game! (Super Mario Bros. (talk))

When I provide hints for a game... you get to Guess That Game!

This game...

  1. ...features several playable characters.
  2. ...has the most power-ups for its genre of game.
  3. ...inspired a spin-off featuring a character playable in certain levels.
  4. ...is similar to another Mario game that is portable.
  5. ...has received widespread critical acclaim, especially for its multiplayer mode.
  6. ...also features a game similar to Mario Bros..
  7. ...has a reference to an 8-bit Link from The Legend of Zelda.
  8. ...won an award this year in this year's Awards Ceremonies.

Answer:

Super Mario 3D World is a 3D platformer game for the Wii U, released in 2013. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad go after Bowser to save the Sprixie Princesses. Rosalina joins later to help, and Captain Toad is featured in several levels throughout the game (and has even been given a starring role in his upcoming game, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker). Mario and friends go through many levels in the game and make use of the vast amount of power-ups available, including the Super Bell which turns them into quite the catty characters. The game has received much acclaim for its singleplayer and multiplayer modes, the Cat Suit, and the addition of Princess Peach as a playable character. It also won Mario Award #30, Favorite Game in the Super Mario Wiki's Mario Awards Ceremony!
