Was it always bird people?[edit]

I know that I've added this bit that "Torino" could possibly be derived from the Japanese word for "bird", but I feel that would only work if that was the intention of the developers behind Solar Striker as well... so, is there any confirmation from the game itself (or any official guide) that, like, the planet Reticulon and/or the Reticulon Army consists of bird people, or is it something Kazuki Motoyama had made up for the KC Mario manga because he had noticed "Torino" contained the word "tori"? I've attempted to research this myself, but considering this is a largely obscure game, most Reticulon coverage is straight up from our wiki, and the Solar Striker manual doesn't really confirm anything (on the one hand, there's the War Hawk enemy, but on the other, most of the enemies appear to be insectoid rather than avian, including the final boss (side note: don't know why we call that one the Quasi Obliterator, when the manual gives that name to Stage 6's sub-boss, rather than the stage's actual boss). Yeah, valid question, but I'm pretty sure it's option B: it's a pun made by Motoyama. From what I can see from the synopsis from the back of the game boxes, they too call the Reticulonians "bats and insects" in most languages. About the name not coinciding, back when I made the pages, I found some scans of the Japanese manual somewhere (I don't remember where, so, back when we did the NIOL source cleanup, I just put the walkthrough pages from the volume), and in there the mid-bosses shared the names with the stage bosses, like they were considered their "phase 1" (i.e. you had "Quasi Obliterator (miniboss)" and "Quasi Obliterator" (still with the "?" in place of the sprite and the awarded points).
