"Hammer BGM" is a simple, short theme composed by Yukio Kaneoka for Donkey Kong, where it plays whenever Mario is using a Hammer in 25m, 50m and 100m.

History
Donkey Kong franchise
Donkey Kong
The original arcade version of Donkey Kong marks the first appearance of "Hammer BGM". It reappears in all of the game's many ports, with the Atari 2600, Intellivision, TI-99/4A, MS-DOS, Apple II, and ZX Spectrum ports directly reusing the original version. Other versions differently arrange the theme for different hardware, featuring different instrumentation and sometimes other changes.
*The ColecoVision version is in a lower key.
*Brad Fuller's version for Atari 8-bit computers is similar, but has slightly different instrumentation.
*The Family Computer version, created by the original composer, Yukio Kaneoka, is in C major.
*The VIC-20 version is less even in rhythm.
*The version from Atarisoft's Commodore 64 port is slower, lower, and less even in rhythm.
*The Coleco Adam version is similar to the ColecoVision version with shorter notes.
*The version from Ocean Software's Commodore 64 port is faster and in G major.
*The MSX version is in E major.
*The Amstrad CPC version is in a higher key than the original.
*The Atari 7800 version is in F major.

Among these, the Family Computer arrangement is the most prolific, being reused for the same purpose in the Nintendo Entertainment System, Family Computer Disk System and Famicom Box ports of Donkey Kong; as well as Donkey Kong-e, the e-Reader port of the game; and Classic NES Series: Donkey Kong, the Game Boy Advance port of the game.

Donkey Kong (Game Boy)
In the Game Boy title Donkey Kong, a slightly different chiptune arrangement of the NES arrangement of "Hammer BGM" created by Taisuke Arai plays when Mario is using a Hammer.

Donkey Kong Bananza
In Donkey Kong Bananza, "2D Challenge Course #4 (25m)", a medley arrangement of various themes and jingles from the Donkey Kong game including "Hammer BGM", plays in Radiance Layer Challenge Course 3: Arcade Country.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong series
Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! each feature different arrangements of "Hammer BGM". All of them were created by Lawrence Schwedler and are similar to each other. Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!s version is reused in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars.

Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge features its own arrangement of "Hammer BGM". Despite its similarity to the arrangements in previous games in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, this arrangement was created by James Phillipsen instead of Lawrence Schwedler.

The Nintendo Switch remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong features a new arrangement of "Hammer BGM" that uses a less compressed square synthesizer as its instrument. Lawrence Schwedler is credited for this arrangement of the theme as well.

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix
Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix features a medley arrangement that includes "Hammer BGM" along with several other themes and sound effects from Donkey Kong titled "Moustache, Barrel, and Gorilla".

Super Smash Bros. series
Every game in the Super Smash Bros. series uses the theme.

In Super Smash Bros., a modernized arrangement of "Hammer BGM" plays when a character is using a Hammer. This arrangement returns in Super Smash Bros. Melee for the same purpose; however, unlike in the original, it does not cause the stage music to reset. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, the Hammer item plays a direct reuse of "Hammer BGM" from the NES version of Donkey Kong. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it uses the original arcade version of the theme instead.

In addition to the Hammer item, "Hammer BGM" also appears as part of the series' arrangement of "Title BGM". This arrangement first appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and reappears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

"Donkey Kong / Donkey Kong Jr. Medley" from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also contains an arrangement of "Hammer BGM".

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports of the same name, an arrangement of "Hammer BGM" plays whenever Captain Toad is using a Super Pickax. As the timer for the pickax runs out, the arrangement gets faster and faster.

Tetris series
Tetris DS
In Tetris DS, an arrangement of "Hammer BGM" plays in Push mode when the player is about to beat the opponent.

Tetris 99
In Tetris 99, a remix of the Family Computer arrangement of "Hammer BGM" plays when there are 10 or less players remaining while the Donkey Kong theme is in use.

Luigi's Mansion 3
In Luigi's Mansion 3, an arrangement of "Hammer BGM" plays from the speaker of a treadmill after the treadmill is activated by Luigi. The treadmill, which contains a key, is found in the Training Room of the Fitness Center.

Mario Kart World
In Mario Kart World, an arrangement of "Hammer BGM" plays in the final section of DK Spaceport. The arrangement was created by Takuhiro Honda. It is titled "DK Spaceport (Final Lap)" in the Nintendo Music app.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the Family Computer arrangement is used for the Illumination logo shown at the start of the film, being played by a Minion (Tom) on his keyboard, causing the hammer, in the hands of another Minion (Dave), to move to the music and destroy the Illumination logo in the process.
