Mario Wall Jumping.

The Wall Jump (also known as the Wall Kick) is a move that Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Blue Toad or Yellow Toad can use in various games. In narrow passageways Mario and Luigi can use it to ascend to the top. They jump wall to wall with a little more height with each Jump. They can reach great heights, cross wide gaps, or save themselves from falling into a bottomless pit. In most games, the move can be done by pressing the jump button while sliding down a wall. It has been used in many platformer games. In Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Mini Marios can Wall Jump on certain occasions, mostly on Wall Jump Bars.

The move first appeared in Super Mario 64 and later in the remake. It also appeared in Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Later, it made an appearance in Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat where Donkey Kong was shown being capable of using this move. The move later appeared in New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario could jump off the wall at different angles, depending on the angle he jumped at the wall. This allowed him to jump off a wall at a perpendicular wall. This technique is necessary for some missions in the game, particularly The Shell's Secret.

In the Super Mario Galaxy games, Mario's wall jump had more of a stick into them as he could stay attached to the walls a tad longer than in the previous games. He could also perform a spin jump while wall jumping. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Mailtoad mentions that Toad had the ability to wall jump as he was able to scale up a canyon in pursuit of chasing The Chimp for a Power Star in the Fluffy Bluff Galaxy.

The move is also available as an unintended glitch in Super Mario Bros.. If Mario lands on a wall on a 16x16 pixel boundary, the player is able to cause him to jump from the wall if they have frame-accurate timing. A wall jump glitch also exists in Super Mario Bros. 3.

In the game, Mario Superstar Baseball, this move is also used as a special fielding ability. When jumping near a wall, the character takes a great leap off of it, covering distance at a vertical angle. This move is used to catch low home run balls. In Mario Super Sluggers, this special ability is absent, possibly replaced by the Buddy Jump move.
