The Final Countdown

Template:Minigame-infobox The Final Countdown is a Battle minigame in Mario Party 7 as well as a Free-for-All minigame in Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Party Superstars. Its name comes from the song of the same name performed by Swedish rock band Europe.

Introduction

The panels start at two, then count down to zero and open. They then reset to random numbers as the players head in from the sides and leap onto the platform.

Gameplay

The playing field is a platform with nine panels. There is a number on each of the panels (1–9), and the numbers on each panel decrease by one after a certain time period. If the number on a panel reaches zero, the panel gives way, eliminating any player standing on it, then automatically resets to a random number from one to nine. Competitors can move and punch and kick their opponents to try to force them off the whole platform or into a hole. Additionally, the countdown speed increases as the game progresses. The last player standing on the number panels wins the minigame. If all players fall simultaneously, a random winner is decided.

Ending

In Mario Party 7 and Superstars, Fly Guys drop the loser(s) onto the platform in the order they placed, from 2nd to 4th. The winner(s) then perform(s) their victory pose while the loser(s) perform(s) their losing poses. If everyone survives until the end, they all perform their winning poses. If everyone falls, the winner will be dropped off by a Fly Guy first, followed by everyone else. There are two different versions of this purpose. One has the winner celebrating, and another has the Fly Guys dropping all four players, after which they all sulk.
