While the Nintendo Power guide does mention "Spiked" at the start of a sentence and later generically calls it a "spiked block" later on the same page, the fact that it's more or less a direct translation leads me to believe it's intended as part of the name rather than a descriptor. 「トゲハテナブロック」 according to Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. While the Nintendo Power guide does mention "Spiked" at the start of a sentence and later generically calls it a "spiked block" later on the same page, the fact that it's more or less a direct translation leads me to believe it's intended as part of the name rather than a descriptor.
