Another possibility is that it's an earlier name for Donkey Kong Classics, a two-in-one cartridge containing Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr.. It is also possible that it was to be a Famicom Disk System remake of the original game in a similar fashion to the FDS Mario Bros. remake.
