The Philips CD-i was a video game system that was the first one to be CD-ROM-based. Nintendo originally partnered with Philips to make the SNES CD; the SNES CD was later aborted. The CD-i was originally released in 1991; it cost $700 in the United States[1]. After the SNES CD was aborted, Philips released three Zelda Games, one Mario Game, and a CD-i version of Tetris under contract from Nintendo. The Zelda and Mario games received bad reception; on top of that, the system itself sold poorly.
