Type Duel mini-game

Sky Survivor is a Duel minigame found in Mario Party 5.

Introduction

The players, riding their vehicles, appear on the screen in front of a Fishin' Lakitu, who signals the start of the minigame.

Gameplay

This minigame takes place in the sky above the clouds. Both players ride Koopa Shell-shaped machines, which have small wings on each side and are either red or blue. The minigame consists of the two players flying through rainbow rings that use most of the screen. The players' objective is to avoid the red spiny balls found in the minigame's course. Both players must maneuver their way through the "tunnel" without being hit in order not to lose any health. The health is represented by a small heart-shaped figure. When a player is hit, this heart loses some of its color on top of it. The player riding the red machine is represented by a red heart, while the one riding the blue machine gets a blue one. During the course, there are floating clouds with palm trees growing off them, as well as Fly Guys and Koopa Paratroopas in the background. As the competitors fly further into the "tunnel," more red spiny balls appear, making them harder to dodge. The first player to get hit five times depletes their health and loses. If both players manage to avoid the barrage of spiny balls, they fly through a sky temple (the finish line). If this happens, the player with more health remaining wins. If both players have the same amount of health, the minigame ends in a draw.

The losing player's engine smokes, causing them to descend. The camera then faces the winning player, who waves. If the minigame ends in a draw, both players' machines will falter.
