re:Edit summary

my edit summary was meant to display genuine incomprehension at the edit in question. if you felt offended by that, I will admit that I may baveen a tad rude to a new user and I am sorry.

Re:Courtesy

Well, I'm sorry if I called you incompetent. I didn't really mean any harm, I'm just doing my job as quality control for this wiki. It's genuinely hard to distinguish between laziness and genuine effort to make articles better, the former (that being laziness) which irritates far more than doing the best of your abilities. It seems to me that you seem like you're in the latter category, making an effort to make this wiki better. Also, I had no idea that you're a foreign speaker, so I understand that it's tough to get your ideas across in a foreign language. Generally speaking, many people aren't exactly courteous here 100% of the time either, and those rules get broken frequently anyway; I don't think it's a good idea to cite the rules when you're having problems with more experienced users trying (aka me) to have quality control here.

Thanks for voicing your concerns, and keep contributing to MarioWiki. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 20:08, 19 April 2016 (EDT)

It's ok, it was just I'm a new user and especially was a new user, so it kind of made me feel a bit bad and. I don't know, unwelcome? I'm not entirely sure what ideas you're referring to, I thought I'd been pretty elaborate on things, but I guess not? Still, it's good you're doing your job but it was kind of unnecessary to call a new user incompetent behind their back... I made the change because nobody wanted to give me sourcing on Motley's pronouns, so I changed them to they/them since that's what you do in English when you don't know a person's gender or pronouns, I don't need to be a native speaker to know that, not with the internet around :3c I know some people just edit in/out random things for no reason but in my case there was a discussion about it so it wasn't really random, I was worried I'm not allowed to edit it without someone's permission but nobody would give me sources and I didn't wanna take up the whole talk page so I changed it for the time being until somebody proved Motley had canon pronouns, which glowsquid eventually did and reverted it back! As you probably saw, by the way, the edit summary was confusion of why it was made not because it was grammatically incorrect or something... Just because "everyone does it" doesn't mean you should, it's still technically against the rules and it's just, well, flat out rude in general, they're there for a reason... And wait wait, I didn't cite the rules because i was having problems with you having quality control, I cited them because you literally broke several of the courtesy rules which both gives a really bad impression for the wiki (you being a patroller(? I think? Sorry if I'm mistaken dfjghsdjkh) and all) and sets a bad example, I feel like a patroller(??) saying it's ok to break the rules isn't a very good impression on other (especially new) users, no offence of course just uh... Also, don't view yourself higher than me because you've been here longer, you're still able to mess up, which is ok, people mess up all the time! But it's not a bad thing of someone, new or old user, to address it when you do, it's just treating you as an equal.
Thanks for apologizing at least! I'm still kind of confused and I'd appreciate if you elaborated on what you meant a little but, uh, thanks? Thanks!! --Lemmyistrans (talk) 02:08, 20 April 2016 (EDT)
I'm not a Patroller, but users don't necessarily need ranks to impose authority upon others. All the ranks are are people trusted with more general maintenance of the wiki. While it is true that I'm on an equal playing field as you, power-wise, more experience means that I generally know what I'm doing and therefore, I normally don't need to get reminded of rules that I'm aware of. Also, I didn't say you were incompetent behind back, I legitimately did not know the account was owned by you, I thought it was another user unrelated to the IP who didn't care. The rules, on another hand, are just a general guideline, not a strictly-imposed thing; otherwise, too many users would be struck with a reminder that they're acting discourteously. There's a saying that you should know the rules so you can break them properly; this saying applies to the rules we set up here. The reason experienced users get more of a leeway is that they're more trusted and that they've been here longer, so you know that all of their edits are made in good faith. People are complex emotionally, and they would make a whoopsie once in a while, but I personally don't think it's enough to warrant them punitive action. Also, there's no need to constantly apologize, I'm cool with you. ;) BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 16:42, 20 April 2016 (EDT)
Okay? I'm glad you're not angry at me, at least! I was mostly reminding you 'cause you claim you already know the rules yet you still broke them? And doesn't it say on the page that when you break one you may be given a warning? Besides, you shouldn't be discourteous at all, rules or not, it's just, y'know, rude and unpleasant for everyone involved... And that's, uh, literally what behind back means though? To talk behind someone's back means to say bad things to someone about someone else while they're not listening, which is what you (believed) you did...? And I assumed you were a patroller or something of the like since you said you were doing your job as quality control, or something? I'm really confused uh... But still, having more experience doesn't mean you can't do something bad and it especially doesn't excuse it when you do... I wasn't saying we're on an equal scale power-wise, I meant we're equal, as in, nobody's overall superior, above, etc, than the other, just as people not as possitions of power? Also, I'm really confused by "users don't need ranks to impose authority upon others" because? You can't have authority over someone if you're on the same rank? That's sort of what authority means, I'm pretty sure...? Either way, I don't think you should want to impose authority over others at all, especially not on the same rank as you, you can act as a guide which would be helpful for everyone, but to impose authority you don't have seems? Kind of weird? The authority you have over me as a more experienced user is that you know more how the site works, and that's it... You shouldn't use that little authority to escape following the rules set up by the wiki or to call other less experienced users incompetent, an authority is someone who people under that authority should be able to trust, so insulting people under your authority because they don't have that authority is not very authority-y of you if you ask me uh... I'm sorry I feel like I sound mean or insulting I really don't mean to I'm just really? Confused?
Oh also, uh, I'm not entirely sure you, as a regular non-admin user, is allowed to say what rules are or aren't ok to break...? I'm fairly sure you don't get to decide that uh... I'm super confused I think I might talk to an admin soon (I don't have to mention you if you don't want me to!!) just so I can get things figured out... jfghsdjfghskdfh I'm happy you aren't mad at me, I apologize a lot 'cause I'm not super good with words and I don't want to accidentally sound mean or condesending sjfdghkjsdhfkgjdfh sorry!! --Lemmyistrans (talk) 04:15, 22 April 2016 (EDT)
