I believe it's a possibility that the latest update has changed some characters' rivals, at least for [[King Boo]]. If you look on YouTube, all videos of GP using King Boo (at least the most popular ones) show that he doesn't have a consistent rival. However, based on one of our users' experience with the game (which is more recent than some of those videos - namely after the update), King Boo has a rival in [[Dry Bones]]. So, I believe it's possible that King Boo gained a rival after the update - it's possible this may have occurred to other characters.
