This is what I propose we use in place of the current [[Template:Alien|Alien]] and [[Template:Cosmic Species|Cosmic Species]] Templates. It is better for navigation as it divides the characters and species. It would be best to have "[[Wikipedia: Alien (biology)|Alien]]" in the title, as that ''is'' what those characters are in relation to the Mushroom World. Technically, this means the [[Smithy Gang]] and all the beings in ''[[Super Paper Mario]]'' are aliens too, but that's what the "Cosmic" reference is for: to establish we mean Extraterrestrial-type aliens, as opposed to average forgeiners. (Not including [[Smithy]] et. al makes this template more specific and thereby more useful; they and the ''SPM'' enemies should get their own templates instead.) "[[Wikipedia: Extraterrestrial|Extraterrestrial]]" itself can't be used, because that refers to things not from ''Earth'' (it's Latin). The real [[Template_talk:Cosmic Species|problem]] is which of the existing templates to use, and which one to scrap. I feel "Aliens" is easier to write, and a more natural choice; whereas Cosmic Species has seniority. [[MarioWiki:Proposals#E.T. Templates|Here is the Proposal concerning all this]]. It passed in favor of <nowiki>{{Alien}}</nowiki>.

Organization[edit]

Shouldn't Mario be under the Donkey Kong series? Without the Donkey Kong series we would have no Mario series today. =D -- Son of Suns (talk) Joking of course. I actually think the best way to think of everything is not as levels with "parent" and "children" series but as a web of connections between individual media products (this page does not get into the cartoons, comics, etc.). Totally. I love telling people Princess Peach was raised by elderly Hammer Bros. and Mario was born from a giant peach. It's all true, from a certain point of view. =P -- Son of Suns (talk)
It's also fun trying to think of ways to fit it all together (you can't put it up here because it's all speculation, but it's still a worthwhile pastime, IMO). For example, most people assume the Koopalings' mother died (I've written a 120 page fanfiction about the ill-fated Queen of the Koopas myself), but the other day I read a story in which they were adopted. It seemed like such an obvious answer, and it blew my mind that I had never heard it before! - Walkazo 01:08, 24 December 2008 (EST)

Redirection[edit]

Some of the redirects I made for Jūshī were actually common spelling mistakes. For example, Jyuushii is completely wrong, but you see it everywhere. What's your opinion on this?

Actually, Jūshī probably would make for a better example than Torejan. - 2257(Talk) 01:03, 3 August 2009 (EDT)

Sounding out words in a totally foreign language can be tricky, so creating temporary redirects for subjects of newly released games sounds reasonable. On the one hand, they could just try searching for something similar (i.e. when searching for "Immounu" turned up nothing, I simply tried "Imounu" next, and got to the right page), but seeing as new games are hot-button topics, giving searchers more leeway might be worth-while. Once the game gets established in English, the spelling mistakes should all be deleted (to make room for the next new game). However, for Japan-only releases that have been out for a while (like Super Mario Fushigi no Korokoro Party), there aren't enough searchers to justify spelling redirects.
As for the example thing, my computer doesn't handle the symbols in Jūshī well: I need to cut and paste the hexadecimals to get it right, so it was simply easier to go with Torejan. - Walkazo 16:56, 3 August 2009 (EDT)
