Template:Minigame-infobox Gyro for the Gold (Rolling Racer in PAL versions) is a General minigame in Mario Party: Island Tour. The name of the minigame is a pun on the phrase "go for the gold."

Introduction

The camera shows the goal (a castle rooftop with four Goal Poles), then scrolls backwards to the competitors.

Gameplay

Players are on balls, which they must roll to the finish line, passing through the obstacle course. The Nintendo 3DS gyro sensor is used to roll the ball.

Soon after the starting line, a ramp sends the players to a green platform filled with mushrooms that keep appearing and disappearing. If a character touches one, they will bounce back. Following a second ramp, there is a grayish platform where blue Brick Blocks fall onto. They cannot be broken, so competitors must bypass them. The final area is a set of fences and two elevators that move side to side. A blue ramp launches the player directly onto their respective finish spot.

Controls

  • Tilt motion control – Move

In-game text

  • RulesNTSC "Guide your character through the obstacle course as quickly as possible."
  • RulesPAL "Balance on the ball while navigating the obstacle course and speed your way to the finish."

Trivia

  • The music speeds up when the 3DS system is tilted forwards, and slows down when tilted down.
  • A rare glitch is when the player bounces on top of a character at the blocks section, possibly sending the player on top of the blocks.
  • This minigame most likely refers to the Star Ball Rolling sections in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel. Besides the similar gameplay, the music is covered in this minigame and, as stated above, it speeds up or slows down depending on the movements made.
