The article states that this game marks the first time Luigi is depicted as taller and thinner than Mario. I've heard the claim elsewhere as well.

But it seems like artwork for The Lost Levels, which came out two years beforehand, includes a tall and thin Luigi.

I am not. It's tagged as being from the original game though. We would check the game's manual.
