Split Spark and rename this page to Wire Trap
This proposal aims to split Spark from this page.
Long time ago, around 2006, the Spark page was only about the Spark from Super Mario Bros. 2 and how they continued to appear in other games and media. However, on December 20, 2008, a user added information about the Sparks from the Donkey Kong series, likely due to the simple argument of the same name. This change wasn't accompanied by any prior discussion or questioning, allowing the page to gradually shift its focus away from the Super Mario Bros. 2 enemy and become more general, including more similar enemies, such as Pyro Dangle and Magnet Sparky (which were later split). Due to these changes, the page slowly lost its identity, as it became more of a collection of similar creatures than a single, recurring entity. "creatures that emit pulses and flashes of electricity continually" It's curious how this statement is now incorrect, since one of the "Sparks" on this page is made of fire, not electricity.
As you can see, the page gradually lost its identity and became a collection of similar enemies. Yet , for a while, some distinction was maintained between the Spark from Donkey Kong and the Spark from Super Mario Bros. 2, as can be seen in this segment: "Though absent from a game for some time, the yellow Sparks have recently made a comeback in the game." And other users have even echoed these differences, as can be seen here.
Split Blue Blurp
I am referring to the blue guy from Yoshi's Story. Prior to being merged here, this guy was merged with the Red Blurp from the same game on a page called Blurp (Yoshi's Story), which was then merged with Cheep Cheep, then a page was given to each one of them and then again both of them were merged. After which, they both got merged with Big Cheep Cheep. The proposal that got both of them merged again is this, the first argument uses a comparison with Red/Green Koopa, which I do not think is fair, this is just a one-off enemy that can be easily split. The proposal also use the argument that they are recolors, which really means nothing?. For the comparison with Boss Bass, I agree, although I don't think it's a good argument for merging both of them? yeah, both are similar to Boss Bass, but what else. Then the proposal brings the argument that these are not recognized as different enemies in Japan, which is not true at all, even the German guide splits them. "Red Blurp acts like a slow, higher-jumping Boss Bass, and Blue Blurp acts like a more jerkily-spitting Spray Fish combined with a Cheep Chomp." I don't understand this point. What does this contribute to the proposal? It only describes the enemies and how different they are. And in the end, the proposal brings the argument of colored enemies, which most people are familiar with at this point, and we already know that this is likely to change in the future. Although, in any case, we still have enemies divided by color.
Then, in the proposal to merge both of them with Big Cheep Cheep, Blue Blurp was only mentioned once in the proposal: "The blue ones combine this with a Spray Fish-like behavior," where it is again indicated how they are different from the normal Red Blurp. No Big Cheep Cheep, in any game, past or present, combines Spray Fish mechanics, so I still don't see a relevant argument here. I understand the merge of Red Blurp with Big Cheep Cheep, and it's well explained in the proposal. But Blue Blurp got the short end of the stick. Being a clearly distinct enemy from the standard Big Cheep Cheep in the game, since it has unique mechanics, is differentiated in English, Spanish, and even Japanese, and considering that more color variations have been separated lately, I think there's no excuse for continuing to keep such an enemy merged here. Furthermore, it would be consistent with how Mario's Castle handled them.
