This article should be split into two articles, one for the Smash item from the Kirby universe and one for the Star Spirit's rod. They are in no way the same even if the latter is a reference. Stumpers! 23:20, 27 March 2008 (EDT)

I support a split. They are definitely different Star Rods. --Grandy02 07:49, 22 June 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for reminding me about this by editing. I think a proposal is in order. Stumpers! 02:34, 23 June 2008 (EDT)

In my honest opinion, the Paper Mario Star Rod is more than just a mere reference to the Kirby Star Rod; I have reason to believe it IS the same rod, or at least heavily influenced by it. I oppose the split, they seem too much like the same thing to me. My Bloody Valentine

Um, it's an obvious reference, they have the same principles. Merge... Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif 12:17, 24 December 2008 (EST)
There was a proposal to unmerge them, which passed, you have to make a new proposal for merging them again. It was unmerged for a reason, they aren't the same, the Star Rod in Mario is from Star Haven and grants any wish, while the Star Rod in Kirby is from the Fountain of Dreams and is its power source so that the people can dream and it doesn't grant wishes when used in battle. In Japanese, their names are even spelled different, スターロッド (Sutā Roddo, "Star Rod") in Kirby and スターの杖 (Sutā no Tsue, can be translated as "Star Rod") in Mario. They also look different. --Grandy02 17:13, 24 December 2008 (EST)
