Is a separate article on the Famicom really needed? The ''Mario'' games for the console are mostly the same as for the NES. If someone was going to write about the various appearances of the NES/Famicom in ''Mario'' media (or are those not notable?), the two articles would become redundant since both the Famicom and NES are often found in the same game, but in different versions due to localisation. --[[User:Grandy02|Grandy02]] 13:13, 18 May 2010 (EDT)

== Russia release date: does the Dendy count as official? ==

As per the source, while the initial release of the Dendy: a clone of the Famicom distributed by Steepler with no association with Nintendo, later got authorization in 1994 in regards to the distribution of the Super NES and Game Boy systems in the region. However in regards to the Dendy clone consoles getting authorization, it appears this authorization was in regards to Nintendo not going after the company for distributing a clone of their system. Nintendo had no involvement with the Dendy brand even after this supposed authorization while in comparison Nintendo was involved with the distribution of Super NES and Game Boy products in cooperation with Steepler. I've been thinking about it for a while, and I really can't think of any good reason why this is split from the [[NES]] article. The Famicom is just the Japanese version of the NES with a different design. The only exclusive game (not including the [[Famicom Disk System]] or the [[Family Basic]]) is ''[[Donkey Kong Jr. + Jr. Sansū Lesson]]'', which is basically a port of ''[[Donkey Kong Jr. (game)|Donkey Kong Jr.]]'' and ''[[Donkey Kong Jr. Math]]'' on one cartridge. If anything, the Super Famicom has more exclusive games, with it having five exclusive games over one. I don't think the fact it has ''one'' exclusive game and the fact it looks different from the overseas NES justifies it to have its own article.

Both since the Famicom is already historically significant, but also, this feels a lot like "simplification for simplification's sake", when no, it is actually worth noting that the Famicom and the NES are in fact different consoles! In addition, this seems to be based on the assumption there is only one Famicom-Exclusive game, when if you consider the Famicom Disk System (which [[Family Computer Disk System|has its own article!]]), we have [[All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros.]], [[Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race]], [[Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally]], [[I am a teacher: Super Mario Sweater]], [[Golf: Japan Course]], [[Golf: US Course]], and [[Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic]]. If anything, we figure a merge for the Disk System article and this article is in order, because the Disk System is very directly an accessory to the Famicom itself; having the Disk System article but not the Famicom article would make about as much sense as having the article on the [[Nintendo 64DD]] without an article on the [[Nintendo 64]].

The similarities begin and end at running the same basic software format, but even then, there are differences between them. Contrast that with the SFC/SNES, where the only differences were the American release had purple buttons and the western releases have a stick of plastic in the cartridge hole as a pathetic region-locking mechanism. "Exclusive games" have nothing to do with this.

:We know there isn't a Super Famicom article, and to be honest, if this proposal fails, we don't see the harm in trying to make a proposal to create a Super Famicom article, for the same logic as keeping this article. As for the N64 thing, that was just the best example that came to mind of an accessory that had fully-released games exclusively made for it; sure, the Satellaview had games in the form of broadcasts, but like, the 64DD had fully-released, physical games to it, which is closer to what the Disk System has. {{User:Camwoodstock/sig}} 15:30, October 14, 2024 (EDT)
