Expand Version Differences[edit]

Question.svg This talk page or section has a conflict or a question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

It should be worth noting that version differences aren't exclusive to Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, or Nintendo Switch games, as those are likely the most common thing people will think of when it comes to version differences (like Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Mario Kart 8). I have seen version differences in older games, like in the three SNES games in the Donkey Kong Country (series). To check of any known version differences, The Cutting Room Floor logs these, but might not have everything. This could help aid determining what version the glitch works in, if someone claims to not be able to get a glitch to work, because some glitches were removed in certain releases of Donkey Kong Country 2 for SNES. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:07, 5 January 2018 (EST)

I agree with that. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 10:01, January 24, 2023 (CST)
Ok, so this still isn't resolved. Weird. I stand by what I said back in January. It definitely needs to happen. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 11:06, September 27, 2023 (CST)
Yes, this really needs to be resolved. Games that were released before the early 2000's (when consoles began to have bug fixes and patches like we do today) generally had a final version that was shipped to stores, and then there were post-final versions of the same game that fixed glitches and quirks in the code that were then also shipped to stores for selling. Usually the post-final version(s) were the ones most people got, but some people get the least updated version to come on the market. The latter usually have the original glitches that were unfixed, thus creating version differences. A good example or two of this is Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Genesis, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario World. Look on TCRF to start, and then try researching on your own. Yes, and I think, if I remember correctly, that Sonic 1 for the Genesis also had something like that, but I think it was to fix the level select. Also, I would use TCRF, but it's blocked on the device I'm using. BUT maybe we could do something akin to Sonic Retro's glitch pages? SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 08:46, December 12, 2023 (CST)
Ah, yes, you're right. This isn't a Sonic wiki, though, and I was just putting out some examples. I may start looking on TCRF for glitches exclusive to different versions for Super Mario games, and then maybe we could do a proposal for including version difference glitches? I've seen Sonic Retro's glitch pages and they're organized pretty well, so I think it's not a bad idea to organize pages that way. We should probably stick to how the glitch pages are organized now, though. Anyway, I'll start looking at stuff to include for this idea and I'll get back to you. -- Artwork of Rosalina used in Mario Party: The Top 100, Mario Kart Tour and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The Sonic 1 thing was also an example, I just didn't know the exact details. And when I said "something akin to Sonic Retro's glitch pages", I meant that they have a thing like "patched in such-and-such". That is what I meant. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 14:47, December 12, 2023 (CST)
Oh, okay! Thanks for the clarification. Also, I looked at this page yesterday, and it turns out that they do have a small note about this talk page subject in the page already, so there's actually no need for a proposal type thing. I will get to work on those glitches, though. Thanks! -- Artwork of Rosalina used in Mario Party: The Top 100, Mario Kart Tour and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Oh, you don't have to say that, you did most of it. I should be thanking you. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 07:40, December 14, 2023 (CST)
Well, you're the one who said this needs to happen! Besides, I always thank people for their time no matter how much work they did. And I haven't done much yet in the way of executing this idea, so there's no need to thank me yet. I do appreciate your thanks, though! -- Artwork of Rosalina used in Mario Party: The Top 100, Mario Kart Tour and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. I didn't suggest this, WildGooseSpeeder did, I just agreed. But that's fine! SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 08:56, December 14, 2023 (CST)
Oh, silly me, I forgot! I do have a bad memory sometimes. Anyway, I'm going to start looking for version difference glitches today, so I'll go to TCRF to get started on that. I'll try to add some glitches to pages soon. -- Artwork of Rosalina used in Mario Party: The Top 100, Mario Kart Tour and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Ok, though I suggest going by year, but you do you. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 09:01, December 15, 2023 (CST)
