The Kinoko Sword is a weapon used by Mario in the Super Mario Bros. 2 manga and Super Mario-kun. In one chapter of the latter, it is used as a stand-in for the Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda series. It can be powered up with Super Mushrooms, causing it to become the Master Kinoko Sword, an extended energy blade.
In chapter 4 of volume 4, Mario and Yoshi are sent to the world of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. During the adventure, Yoshi is turned into a shield and Mario is in possession of the Kinoko Sword. Later, when fighting Agahnim, Mario receives some Super Mushrooms from Luigi that power-up the Mushroom Sword into the Master Kinoko Sword, with which Mario is able to defeat the sorcerer.
Later, in chapter 3 of volume 13, Mario is visiting a future timeline where Bowser won and a descendant of his is now the janitor of a museum about Bowser's ascension. Ludwig von Koopa, the museum director, attacks Mario to grant a even easier ascension. The descendant hands Mario a Mushroom that was passed down in the family for generations, only for him to discover that it is the Master Kinoko Sword and defeat Ludwig with it.
