The Kinoko Sword is a weapon used by Mario in Super Mario-kun. It is a parody of Link's Master Sword from the The Legend of Zelda series and also a callback to the sword Mario used in the Super Mario Bros. 2 manga. It can be powered up with Super Mushrooms, causing it to become the Master Kinoko Sword, an extended energy blade.

In chapter 4 of volume 4, Mario and Yoshi are sent to the world of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. During the adventure, Yoshi is turned into a shield and Mario is in possession of the Kinoko Sword. Later, when fighting Agahnim, Mario receives some Super Mushrooms from Luigi that power-up the Mushroom Sword into the Master Kinoko Sword, with which Mario is able to defeat the sorcerer.

Later, in chapter 3 of volume 13, Mario is visiting a future timeline where Bowser won and a descendant of his is now the janitor of a museum about Bowser's ascension. Ludwig von Koopa, the museum director, attacks Mario to grant a even easier ascension. The descendant hands Mario a Mushroom that was passed down in the family for generations, only for him to discover that it is the Master Kinoko Sword and defeat Ludwig with it.
