Flip Panels make their debut in ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]''. When the green "!" switch is pressed, it creates several connected green panels with faces that help [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]] cross large gaps or hazardous elements, similar to [[Snake Block]]s. After a certain time, these panels will turn dark green, open their mouths, and start to disappear. When all panels disappear, the player can step on the "!" switch to create the Flip Panels again.

Flip Panels appear in [[World 2-1 (Super Mario 3D Land)|World 2-1]], [[World 2-2 (Super Mario 3D Land)|World 2-2]], [[World 4-5 (Super Mario 3D Land)|World 4-5]], [[Special 2-5]], [[Special 6-3]], and {{world link|s8|crown|Special 8-Crown}}. In {{world|S8|crown}}, the Flip Panels are not used as platforms but rather to spell out a message to the player, reading, "THANK YOU!!"
