:It must be cleared what "active" means. If a player chooses one of the Villagers, the software can choose and control the other Villager, of course. What is indicated here as difference is both of the Villagers being chosen and controlled by the software in the same race, since typically the software doesn't select two characters from the same slot.--[[User:Mister Wu|Mister Wu]] ([[User talk:Mister Wu|talk]]) 09:05, 27 February 2017 (EST)

Female and male villagers are now separate characters on the character select screen

https://twitter.com/tomphillipsEG/status/819871856715034624 Thought this fact can be mentioned in the character section.

Why are Miis listed as exclusive to MK8

THEY HAD A SLOT FOR THEM IN THE DEMO
The preceding unsigned comment was added by 108.48.156.49 (talk).

The slot is a question mark so we have no official proof Miis are playable. It is a possibility that the Miis will be in but we can't confirm it until we have some sort of video or screenshot from the game. Fuzzy in New Super Mario Bros. UYoshiGo99Artwork of a Yoshi egg on a tilt. It is unknown whether this artwork was released with a certain game or not. 20:36, 13 January 2017 (EST)
It's also likely the Mii slot was carried over from the original build of the game and was not taken out at the time of the video. We have no confirmation Miis are going to part of the Switch atm. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:37, 13 January 2017 (EST)

Why I got rid of the trivia in the article

"*Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will become the first game in the Mario Kart series to get released before a Mario platform game gets released on the same system. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be launched in April 2017 and the Mario platformer, Super Mario Odyssey, will be launched in the holiday season of 2017."

This trivia takes advantage of a very specific scenario to make an "interesting" point, which is very easy to observe for any game if you think things through hard enough and had a convenient game series to compare to. I can say that Mario Party 4 and Mario Party 8 are the only Mario Party games to be released before a Mario Kart on a system and it would be just as valid. Would it as equally applicable to add to a trivia section? No.

Besides, this game is a port of an older released game. It's not a new entry on the Mario Kart series, unlike all other Mario Kart titles, and we don't know if we'll get a proper sequel in the system, which raises questions if it will count more or not.

"*This is the first time a Mario Kart game was ported to a system without emulation."

This trivia is very silly. It states pretty much the obvious, something that can be easily included in the opening paragraph, and it had to include "without emulation" to make a point otherwise, you cannot count the Virtual Console games. Trivia works best when it has to make the fewest exceptions as possible cover up any flaws noted in it, and this one is perhaps the game that has the greatest exception of games to make a point. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:40, 14 January 2017 (EST)

The first is referring purely to Mario Kart itself, as Mario Kart had yet to be release before a mainstream Mario game until now. I agree the second is pretty silly, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:43, 14 January 2017 (EST)
I've edited probably before you posted, but it's a port of a Mario Kart title, so that raises questions if it "counts" or not. I'd rather avoid that territory and just get rid of questionable trivia altogether. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:44, 14 January 2017 (EST)
Well... Is MK8D the first enhanced port of any Mario game?--EldritchdraaksSig1.pngEldritchdraaksSig2.png 14:49, 14 January 2017 (EST)
There's Super Mario 64 DS, Super Mario Advance, and so on. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:50, 14 January 2017 (EST)
No it's not. There's the Super Mario Advance series, Super Mario 64 DS, Donkey Kong Land, and others that slipped my mind. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:51, 14 January 2017 (EST)
So then it's just he first enhanced port in the Mario Kart series, and the first enhanced port in awhile.--EldritchdraaksSig1.pngEldritchdraaksSig2.png 14:53, 14 January 2017 (EST)
Something that can easily fit in the opening paragraph. Except the first enhanced port in a while, I wouldn't try fitting that in. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:56, 14 January 2017 (EST)

Potential new mode

File:MK8D Image8.png

I just wanted to point out this picture above. It shows them in a battle stage but we see Toadette holding a Boomerang and none of them have Balloons. It can't be Bob-omb Blast since you only get Bob-ombs and King Boo does have the leader crown on. In the treehouse stream at around the 2 hour and 45 minute mark, they did say the full release will contain some more surprises. Could this be showing a new mode? Fuzzy in New Super Mario Bros. UYoshiGo99Artwork of a Yoshi egg on a tilt. It is unknown whether this artwork was released with a certain game or not. 15:25, 14 January 2017 (EST)

This is the screenshot that perplexes me. Nothing's confirmed of a new mode yet but this doesn't fit any of the descriptions. I say we don't hold any conclusions until we get more information. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 15:26, 14 January 2017 (EST)
Just a little something, not sure how significant it is, but the Crown is topped by a Shine Sprite. MarioComix (talk) 03:44, 15 January 2017 (EST)
Given that a new battle mode involving Shines was recently confirmed, I think this could be either Shine Thief or Shine Runners...
I say it's Shine Thief due to the crown. --Spiny Shell.pngSuperstarxalien169Spiny Shell Reverse.png 15:42, 21 January 2017 (EST)

Miis

So does this basically confirm that Miis are going to be on the Switch in some way? Sprite of Yoshi's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tails777 Talk to me!Robin's stock icon from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I would assume so, yes. MarioComix (talk) 03:37, 15 January 2017 (EST)
You're right! I just saw it yesterday. Have a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVg3oYOdKoE

I didn't see any Miis actually racing in those videos (I did skin then though), so until we actually see one, it's unconfirmed. --EldritchdraaksSig1.pngEldritchdraaksSig2.png 04:31, 17 January 2017 (EST)

So I see that my edit that changed turquoise to blue was reverted

I'm guessing we'll go with what the colors actually are instead of what the game officially calls them, because in Splatoon the turquoiseish color seen in the picture is actually just called blue and so is the regular blue. Turquoise in Splatoon is way more green. Boo item

Boo is not a new Item, originally was in Mario Kart 64 and DS.

It didn't appear in the original MK8, so it's new to the port. Mario (Gold) costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:26, 15 January 2017 (EST)

Feather

What is the proof that the Feather is a Battle Mode exclusive item? Marioguy (talk) 23:44, 15 January 2017 (EST)

Check the website here. Haven't seen it in normal races from what I can view, so... – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 23:54, 15 January 2017 (EST)

I just feel that this should be taken out of the article until futher notice. Marioguy (talk) 09:35, 16 January 2017 (EST)

5 Battle Modes and Inkling Mii Costume

https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5pbnqo/mario_kart_8_deluxe_artwork_release_5_battle/

Basically confirms Miis playable and the 5 Battle Modes: Shine Thief, Coin Runners, Balloon Battle, Bob-Omb Blast and a new Piranha Plant mode

(Miis are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5pbnqo/mario_kart_8_deluxe_artwork_release_5_battle/dcpwebu/)

I've already added Battle mode information to the article before you posted that. I will change the nav template accordingly. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 14:49, 21 January 2017 (EST)
Should we even add the Amiibo in the article or wait until it comes out? --RodneytheMiiGuy 05:01, 22 January 2017 (EST)
Yes we definitely should. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 20:36, 24 January 2017 (EST)

What is the "?" ?

Hello. What is the "?" in the character screen ? It is the "Mii" ? And he have a new cup in the game ? --Captain Yoshi File:YoshiYellow-MK8.png 06:21, 1 February 2017 (EST)

A new Mii costume (the Inkling one) has been confirmed, so the missing character is indeed Mii. It has been confirmed that the game features 48 racetracks, and the cups have been shown to be the same ones in press release material, you can see them in the Gallery.--Mister Wu (talk) 06:27, 1 February 2017 (EST)

Both Villager Types Active

Havn't seen this anywhere else, but i thought i'd bring this up. Both Villager variants are capable of being active at the same time in the original Mario Kart 8. I've seen it a few times in races. Not sure if anyone else has, but just noting it here that has happened. If no one else has experienced or seen it i wont push for the change on the article. - Cubeguy2ver.pngCubeguy(talk)

It must be cleared what "active" means. If a player chooses one of the Villagers, the software can choose and control the other Villager, of course. What is indicated here as difference is both of the Villagers being chosen and controlled by the software in the same race, since typically the software doesn't select two characters from the same slot.--Mister Wu (talk) 09:05, 27 February 2017 (EST)
