Eely-Mouth
The mysterious Eely Mouth.

Eely Mouth is an eel that appeared only once in Super Mario Sunshine. Eely Mouth has gingivitis (a dental problem), and is the cause of all the pollution in Noki Bay. Mario has to use F.L.U.D.D to clean Eely Mouth's teeth and in doing so helps to purify Noki Bay's water. If the monstrous eel swims up and sucks Mario inside its mouth, Mario will be spit back out and lose health. Large purple bubbles regularly come out of its mouth, and they are harmful to Mario, but if he sprays them with F.L.U.D.D., they will pop into a cluster of smaller regular bubbles that will refresh Mario's air supply without him having to look for Coins.

Eely Mouth has eight teeth in total. Four need to be cleaned, and three are rotten and must be extracted. This happens automatically when Mario cleans the tooth. One special tooth is golden when cleaned. Upon finishing the job, Eely Mouth retreats, leaving its golden tooth which turns into a Shine Sprite. Mario also gets twenty Coins in a heart-shaped formation on the seabed.

There are a pair of eyes on both sides of the mouth; one pair appears to be male, and the other female. Eely Mouth lives in a massive underwater chamber below Noki Bay.

Eely Mouth seems to be one of the nicer bosses in the game and the whole franchise due to the fact if you are in Eely's mouth, they will let you out with no damage.

Trivia

  • In Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Eely Mouth's name appears on the scorecard. One has to imagine how Eely Mouth is able to golf.
  • Upon Eely Mouth leaving the mouth of the river and into the cave, FLUDD gives a reminder that's directed especially toward kids. "Remember to take proper care of your teeth!" This becomes the moral of this level.
