The Sun Incense is a special item in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It must be collected from the front desk at the Snif City hotel after Mario and Olivia check into Professor Toad's room. The Snifit running the front desk remembers the professor being interested in a particular item they had on display. With the professor determined to get it, the Snifit ended up selling it to him at a much higher price, not wanting to sell it in the first place. Now feeling guilty about doing this, he gives Mario and Olivia the Sun Incense for free, stating he feels better already.

Mario must then head to the Sun Altar northeast of Scorching Sandpaper Desert, where Olivia recommends he use the Save Block first. He may then place the Sun Incense onto the bowl of sand sitting on the altar. As it begins smoking, Olivia describes it as warm and sunny, giving her pleasant images. Suddenly, the wind starts to blow heavily, to the point where a tornado forms just behind the altar, pulling Mario and Olivia in, thus triggering the boss battle with Mega Paper Macho Pokey.

After clearing the yellow streamer at the Temple of Shrooms, the sun (which has returned from Hole Punch) is needed to open the Sun Altar.
