In this event the player must ski down to the bottom of the mountain going through a number of flag gates. If the player misses a gate, it's a 10 second penalty. Start by flicking the Wii Remote and Nunchuck down before taking off. Tilt the wii remote and nunchuck left or right to make a turn. To slow down, tilt the wii remote and nunchuck up to make a brake.

Alpine Skiing is an Event class that appears exclusively in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, featuring downhill skiing events involving passing through gates. In the Wii version, Downhill and Giant Slalom appear in the class, though the similar Alpine Skiing GS event appears in the Skiing class in the Nintendo DS version, and Alpine Skiing Downhill appears as an event in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
